ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE STATE PARK NEW MEXICO

We are now at Elephant Butte Lake State Park in Elephant Butte New Mexico, right next to Truth Or Consequences. I-25 runs along here and the lake is right on the Rio Grande river, so it has a dam here. Where is that you ask about 95 miles north of El Paso Texas. We are definitely now in the high desert area. Drove 276 miles today, was a nice drive, but seemed long. Here till Monday and will just hang out for the week end.

I never heard of a “High Desert” before coming out west. It is amazing to me that a desert’s exist at higher elevations. Don’t know why but I never remember learning of “High Deserts” in geography classes. Maybe I was sleeping in class that day 🙂

I always get tired of the view of ‘scrub’. Hope you actually get into the town. I’ve heard about it but it wasn’t on our route. Gotta say you’ve been there! Love towns with cool names. Glad you’ve got a little shade. We were near a town of Eden today, but couldn’t find ‘the garden’, so skipped the town. 😉
