Today we traveled 180 miles to Croft State park here in Spartanburg SC. The trip was filled with heavy traffic(everybody and there brother were out driving) and construction along the way, the Rv took a little beating, it was not a fun drive. I am a little tired and worn down. We stay here till Sunday when we leave for Georgia. The rain also has caught up with us, most likely Saturday and Sunday it will be raining. That’s, I guess Ok, we are not sightseeing here. Picture below is of our site here.
We are at Mayberry campground, here in Mt Airy NC. We have been here before, no real frills here, but a good one night stop over. We drove 188 miles from Staunton Va to here today, up and down the hills of Virginia, into North Carolina by way of Fancy gap a 40 mph uphill climb followed by a 7 mile, 8% grade downhill, hitting 70 mph . Traffic was horrible, nothing but semis on the road. Plus along the way Wide load vehicles passed me and when i looked back it was a huge mining truck bed almost taking up both lanes, he wasn’t really gonna stop for me, so i went into the shoulder lane and let him pass, that was exciting NOT. It was also down right hot here 84, i think. A little cooler weather ahead for us the next several days. Other than that we are doing well. Pic below is of our spot here.
We are now at Walnut Hills Campground in Virginia. we have been here before, it is a nice place, more people here than we usually see, there are a lot of big rigs here tonight, all heading to Florida i guess. Drove 191 miles from Gettysburg to here, truck traffic was heavy and it was windy, my arms are tired. Staying here just one night and tomorrow head to North Carolina. It is warming up nicely as we head south, i like that. Pic below is of our pull through spot.
As Dave said, We’re on the road again! Time for new adventures!
We’re leaving Gettysburg today and won’t be back for a few years. As those of you who know Dave two years will be a long time for him. We stayed at
We’ve stayed here before it’s a nice place. One of the nicest things was that it didn’t rain and the weather was great for our walks around the battlefield and town.
On Monday the 5th we took a ride to Schellsburg PA., to visit a friend of mine Amy, whom I worked with awhile back at Northrup Grumman. She moved to PA and is now living in a house she inherited from her Father. It’s a really nice place on a long curvy road. You gotta love roads like that.
The road to a friend’s house is never long. Danish proverb
Me, Maggie in the middle and last but not least Amy!Dave trying to get Amy’s parrot, Burt to say a new word. I won’t tell you what it was!
Thanks for everything Amy, it was great seeing you again! ! !
On the 6th we walked around the Gettysburg Battlefield.
We walked to my dad’s favorite place, Little Round Top, and stood where he used to stand. He stood just like General Warren and looked across the valley to Devil’s Den. I wish I knew wat he was thinking.
We continued to walk to Dave’s favorite places and then into town and had a pizza at Tommy’s, it was delicious as always! Nice time had by all!
We are now in Gettysburg Pa at the Drummer Boy Campground. We have been here before. Staying here till Wednesday morning when we will have about four one night hops ahead of us to get to Georgia or so. Tomorrow we will visit a Friend of Melissa from her work long ago, and Tuesday will visit the town and battlefield for the day.
Yesterday (Saturday )we left our home base in Newfane and drove 240 miles to Williamsport Pa, where we stayed at a Walmart. One thing i forgot to think of when we decided to stay here was that it would be colder. It was 39 last night, no heat, with no hook ups. It was not as bad as we thought it would be. Actually slept some. We got there about five or so, and had dinner and snacks in the truck( it was warmer), then about 9:30 or so went in the rv and went to bed. Today (Sunday) got up had egg sandwhich from the resturant nearby and left about 10 and got here a little after one, drove 148 miles. Already 10 degrees warmer here. That’s about it for now, pics below of Walmart site and campground site.
