MT. AIRY NORTH CAROLINIA

We are at Mayberry campground, here in Mt Airy NC. We have been here before, no real frills here, but a good one night stop over. We drove 188 miles from Staunton Va to here today, up and down the hills of Virginia, into North Carolina by way of Fancy gap a 40 mph uphill climb followed by a 7 mile, 8% grade downhill, hitting 70 mph . Traffic was horrible, nothing but semis on the road. Plus along the way Wide load vehicles passed me and when i looked back it was a huge mining truck bed almost taking up both lanes, he wasn’t really gonna stop for me, so i went into the shoulder lane and let him pass, that was exciting NOT. It was also down right hot here 84, i think. A little cooler weather ahead for us the next several days. Other than that we are doing well. Pic below is of our spot here.

SATUNTON VIRGINIA

We are now at Walnut Hills Campground in Virginia. we have been here before, it is a nice place, more people here than we usually see, there are a lot of big rigs here tonight, all heading to Florida i guess. Drove 191 miles from Gettysburg to here, truck traffic was heavy and it was windy, my arms are tired. Staying here just one night and tomorrow head to North Carolina. It is warming up nicely as we head south, i like that. Pic below is of our pull through spot.

Back on the road

As Dave said, We’re on the road again! Time for new adventures!

We’re leaving Gettysburg today and won’t be back for a few years. As those of you who know Dave two years will be a long time for him. We stayed at

We’ve stayed here before it’s a nice place. One of the nicest things was that it didn’t rain and the weather was great for our walks around the battlefield and town.

On Monday the 5th we took a ride to Schellsburg PA., to visit a friend of mine Amy, whom I worked with awhile back at Northrup Grumman.  She moved to PA  and is now living in a house she inherited from her Father.  It’s a really nice place on a long curvy road. You gotta love roads like that.

The road to a friend’s house is never long. Danish proverb

Me, Maggie in the middle and last but not least Amy!
Dave trying to get Amy’s parrot, Burt to say a new word. I won’t tell you what it was!

Thanks for everything Amy, it was great seeing you again! ! !

On the 6th we walked around the Gettysburg Battlefield.

We walked to my dad’s favorite place, Little Round Top, and stood where he used to stand. He stood just like General Warren and looked across the valley to Devil’s Den. I wish I knew wat he was thinking.

We continued to walk to Dave’s favorite places and then into town and had a pizza at Tommy’s, it was delicious as always! Nice time had by all!

GETTYSBURG PA

We are now in Gettysburg Pa at the Drummer Boy Campground. We have been here before. Staying here till Wednesday morning when we will have about four one night hops ahead of us to get to Georgia or so. Tomorrow we will visit a Friend of Melissa from her work long ago, and Tuesday will visit the town and battlefield for the day.

Yesterday (Saturday )we left our home base in Newfane and drove 240 miles to Williamsport Pa, where we stayed at a Walmart. One thing i forgot to think of when we decided to stay here was that it would be colder. It was 39 last night, no heat, with no hook ups. It was not as bad as we thought it would be. Actually slept some. We got there about five or so, and had dinner and snacks in the truck( it was warmer), then about 9:30 or so went in the rv and went to bed. Today (Sunday) got up had egg sandwhich from the resturant nearby and left about 10 and got here a little after one, drove 148 miles. Already 10 degrees warmer here. That’s about it for now, pics below of Walmart site and campground site.

LESS THAN A WEEK TO GO

We have less than a week to go before we leave here for Florida. Time has just flown by. It was a good summer here, somewhat hot, not a lot of rain, but time to go. Melissa is going to make a post about our summer here hopefully in the next week.

We leave here this Saturday and it will take us about 10 days to get to Key Largo. There we will be work camping at John Pennakamp state park, until January 1st 2021. Then we will head to Key Biscayne near Miami to work camp at Billy Baggs state park. We will be there until March 31st. Then we head west and arrive in Arizona sometime in early May.

Thats about it for now, will most likely make posts about our stops dopwn to Florida, but most will be one night stays.

TROUBLE WITH BLOG

Had some problems with the blog lately. Apparently it is not free anymore, and they added a few features that would not let us post. In upgrading we are now a .com site and followers may have to resave our site. Pain in my butt but hopefully all is back to normal, if not we start over again.

HAIR, HAIR, WHATS WITH ALL THE HAIR

So, The last time I got a hair cut, was in January, somewhere in Florida. When we arrived at our home base at the end of May, everything was still closed. So ,no hair cut. Sometime in early July barber shops opened, still no hair cut. What the heck, I haven’t had my hair this long in over 45 years.

HAPPY 4 OF JULY

WOW, Already the 4th of July, wonder how long this holiday will still be around. That’s a story for another time.

We have been at our home base now for six weeks, seems longer. Coming back here a month later worked out well. It has been very nice here all along, very little rain, and most of the days sunny and highs in the 80’s, I like it. Our first two weeks here we parked over by the big barn so we could clean up the 5er. I spent almost four days, washing ,scrubbing, and scrubbing the roof, walls ,underneath and all that. It got very clean. Now my job for July is to get a buffer and go over the rv and get rid of some oxidation that is occurring and then wax it up. It will be a big job, but it has to be done. We also cleaned out the bays and the inside of the rv very good. After being here two weeks we took the rig to dump the tanks at the nearest rv center. Once back here we got ourselves set up in the back spot. Its’ a little quieter and scenic here. So that’s where we are now, as the pics below show.

We are pretty settled in her at the spot, although every two weeks we have to go dump. We have caught up with some friends so far, although the pandemic is still very real here, stuff is starting to open. We put the red ram truck on the road for the summer, this way Melissa can zip around as she needs, and it saves miles on the big truck. Before we leave here this fall we will sell the ram truck, as we don’t plan on being back here for two years. Melissa has also started back to work, at Brown Electric, and the pharmacy, only about 20 hours a week, but she feels good to be helping out. I on the other hand thought I would find a little part time work too, but with the pandemic crap, it didn’t work out. I do have a few feelers out for a couple small side construction jobs, we will see. Around here I cut the grass, do some cleaning around here, and have been helping my brother, finally start some work on his kitchen. We are in the process now of wiring the new kitchen for all the plugs and lights he will need. Cooper is doing very well, he always adjusts to where he is. We take him to day care sometimes as he cannot run around here a lot because of the road.

Lastly I am at this time going through a bout of poison sumac. It is like poison ivy but worse. I took a few Sumac trees down about a week ago and of course, was not wearing gloves. It is pretty much all over me, mostly on my upper chest and neck. Does it itch, OH boy does it, kind of driving me crazy. I have been putting lotions and stuff on it, but it takes about three weeks or so, to go away, YIKES.

That’s it for now, enjoy the 4th of July

STEVE’S RV PARK AND EMPORIEUM

We are now at Steve’s Rv park, which is actually our home base. We decided to drive straight through today and not stop over night. Drove eight hours today and a total of 377 miles, that is the most miles driven and time driving. I am tired. The roads had very little traffic, I guess because both Pa and NY are still pretty much locked down. I noticed two things once we got into New York, not many trees in bloom or green and we saw at least 10 state troopers, set up with radar, I guess they need to catch all the people staying home, Communist state. It is suppose to be in the low 70’s for the next week which is nice, we have a lot of work to do on the 5er. It took a pretty good beating, roads all over the place just suck. We have parked near to the big barn this time, so it will be easier to clean the Rv, then in a few weeks pull over to our spot by the shed in the woods. Kind of glad to be back, it has been 8 months of travel for us.

GETTYSBURG PA

I let Melissa make a few posts about our final days in the Smokies, (which were better than expected), before I made this post..

Saturday we left River Plantation in Servierville Tn and drove 312 miles to Staunton Virginia to stay one night at Walnut Hills Rv park. We have stayed there before and like it. Sunday we drove 188 miles to Gettysburg Pa, which is where we are now at the Drummer Boy RV Park. We have also been here before and like it. We leave here Wednesday and should arrive at our home base on Thursday. Wednesday night I think we will stay at a Wallmart halfway between. Other than that, I think we both are looking forward to getting back ,although we do not know exactly what to expect with the shut downs there.
